The black pomfret, Parastromateus niger, is a species of carangid native to reefs of the Indian Ocean and the western Pacific Ocean, where it is found at depths from 15 to 105 m (49 to 344 ft), though it is rarely found deeper than 40 m (130 ft). This species grows to 75 cm (30 in) in total length and is very important to local commercial fisheries. This species is the only known member of itsgenus.

Black pomfret High in protein, unsaturated fatty acids and various trace elements. Pomfret body near the diamond, flat side, separate, pewter back, body on both sides of silvery white, the body back to small circular scales, dorsal and anal fin is longer, and symmetry, large pectoral fins, pelvic fin, caudal fin deep fork, lower lobe longer than leaves, roughly the same as the sole origin, quality made in estuaries and qinhuangdao as well, listed in 5 ~ 10 months, of which 6 ~ 7 to produce the best quality, the largest number.


Black pomfret is a variety of nutrients. 100 grams of fish contains 15.6 grams of protein, 6.6 grams of fat, 0.2 grams of carbohydrate, 19 mg of calcium, 240 mg of phosphorus and 0.3 mg of iron. High levels of unsaturated fatty acids, which reduce cholesterol. It contains rich micronutrients, selenium and magnesium, which have a protective effect on cardiovascular disease such as coronary artery disease, and can delay the ageing of the body and prevent cancer.
